The William Beck and Robert Bear scholarships will again be awarded this year. These scholarships, each in the amount of $300 are available to graduating seniors who are the children of Branch 258 members and have a letter of acceptance to a college, university, or trade school. The winners, and alternates (in case of a status change for the winners) will be drawn at the August regular Branch meeting, Applications must be received by the branch by August 9th. 2020 Beck and Bear Scholarships Awarded
Congratulations to the 2020 William Beck and Robert Bear scholarship award winners, who were honored at the Branch 258 September meeting. This year, $500 scholarships were given to Jaden Greco, daughter of Dan Greco, and to Kaila Wolfe, daughter of Darryl Shaak. Congratulations to Kaila and Jayden, and best of luck in your educational pursuits!

2019 Beck and Bear Scholarship Applications are Available
Applications for the Branch 258 Beck and Bear memorial scholarships have been updated for 2019 and are now available. The two $500 scholarship winners will be chosen at the August 14 regular branch meeting, and awarded at the September 11 meeting. These annual scholarships are again available to the children of branch members who have graduated high school in 2019 and have been accepted to a college or trade school. Beck and Bear Local Scholarships to Again Be Awarded This Year
Branch 258 will again award two memorial scholarships honoring William Beck and Robert Bear. These two awards, for $300 - $500 apiece (depending on the success of our fundraising efforts), will be available to children of branch members who have graduated high school in 2018 and have been accepted to a college or trade school. 2017 Scholarship Essay Contest Available for Union Family Members
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO is again offering an essay contest for affiliated union members and their families. Branch 258 is included in this opportunity to win scholaships awards of $2000, $1000, and $500 in two categories - graduating high school seniors and post secondary students. Applicants are requires to write a 1500+ word essay on the topic for the applicant's categories (high school - How can Labor Unions Help Young Workers Get Their Fair Share in Today's Economy?, or post-secondary - What are the Advantages for Workers in Joining a Union?). National Scholarship Opportunities Again Available for 2017
Our national NALC offers two scholarships for children of NALC members who are graduating high school seniors. The Doherty scholarship awards $4000 per year (renewable three times for a total of $16,000 over four years), and the Donelon scholarship awards $1,000 (also renewable 3 times, for a total of $4,000 over four years). The deadline for submitting preliminary applications for these beneficial opportunities is December 31st. Next Scholarship Sandwich Sale Set for May 20, 2016
Branch 258 has set the date for a sandwich sale to replenish the funds to finance our yearly Beck and Bear scholarships. These scholarships are provided by our local Branch 258 to benefit family members of our carriers, and have helped many of our number to further educational opportunities through past years. The sandwiches, as in the past, are being provided by Frank's pizza and subs in Mount Penn, which have drawn extremely positive reviews from our carriers in past sandwich sales. Cost for each sub is $7, and money is due by Tuesday, May 17. For a copy of a form to see what sandwiches are available, click here. Applications Available for Lorah and Bricker Scholarships
The Ron Lorah and Ted Bricker scholarships are once again available to the immediate families of union members, including those of branch 258. The deadlines to submit completed applications for 2013 is July 31. Applications can be found below to read and print.
