Branch 258 Celebrates 2017 George Cook Adopt-A-Family Event By Honoring 2 Families, Veterens
|
It was a bright day and a Christmas made brighter as two families and veterans were honored at the 2017 Annual George Cook Adopt-A-Family celebration, The event was again held at the IBEW building on Morgan Drive in Sinking Spring. This year, the branch again provided a donation to the homeless veterans organization headed by Doug Graybill, which has become another tradition that we celebrate with pride on this occasion. Santa Claus again was gracious with his time and lap, as members families, and friends again shared fellowship, joy, and gifts with the family honorees and each other. Branch 258 would like to thank all who donated and organized our celebration and made this wonderful event possible. In addition, Branch 258 would like to send a special thanks to the people of the House of Good Food, who donated an outstanding catered feast to the group this year. We are confident that all attendees left the event as both full and uplifted. 2014 Adopt-A-Family A Wonderful Occasion for All
|
Branch 258 is proud to report that the 2014 George Cook Memorial Christmas Family Adoption Celebration was both a fulfilling and celebratory occasion for all participants. Firstly, we would like to thank Bill Augustine for putting together a powerpoint musical and pictorial presentation that can be seen by clicking here (your computer must be able to run powerpoint, click slideshow and show from beginning). We would also like to thank all contributors for their time, monetary donations, and gifts to support the people that we adopted for this holiday season. The celebration itself was enjoyed by all, with food, and visits by Santa Claus, who was this year was accompanied by his right hand reindeer Rudolph (who knew that Rudolph was so tall?). We also managed to keep our gift donations a secret from the families until the last moment, which created a response that was both emotional and gratifying. Once again, thank you to all and enjoy the pics and powerpoint!

Branch 258 Honored at National Heroes Presentation
On September 10, 2014, Branch 258 had the distinct honor of receiving the NALC national Branch service award in recognition of our annual Christmas adopt-a-family program. This activity is now entering its 14th year, and has been renamed the George Cook Memorial Christmas Adoption Program. This presentation was made at the NALC event honoring branches and carriers for their heroism and service to the community. Branch president Fred Ranalli and vice president Richard McDonough were on hand to accept the award for the branch. In conjunction, with the award, our local newspaper also ran a story on the same week which highlighted the history of the program. Our 2012 annual Adopt-A-Family Christmas celebration was held on Thursday, December 20 at the union hall. As in previous years, we continued our tradition of adopting a family to share in the spirit of giving for this joyous season. We had 0ur usual turn of opening gifts, a visit from St. Nick, friends and family on hand, as well as refreshments. This year, we also were pleased to have coverage in both the print and broadcast media - obviously, this recognition has never been a goal of this endeavor, but it is nice to have help in raising community awareness of the role that letter carriers can play in their communities.
