Senatorial Hopeful Speaks at 2016 St. Patrick's Day Dinner

Members and guests were in attendance at the 2016 Berks Labor Council St. Patrick's Day dinner, held on March 19 for the first time at the new Doubletree Hotel in Reading.  Various labor unions from around Berks were represented as a fine dinner was combined with fellowship from our union brothers and sisters.  The highlight of the evening was the presentation given by guest speaker Joe Sestak, who is running for a US Senate position from Pennsylvania this fall.  Sestak, who achieved the rank of admiral in the US Navy, talked about accountability which is a hallmark of Naval service, and the dire need to hold public servants accountable for their decisions and actions.  Mr. Sestak also highlighted his walk across Pennsylvania as a trust building endeavor with the people that he asks to represent.  He expressed a support of the labor movement as both a cause and effect of the middle class, as each grow stronger with the other.  By all accounts, a fine evening was had by all who representing Branch 258, and we hope that we can increase the interest and attendence for this event.
