Los Angeles Welcomes the NALC for the 74th Biennial National convention

The 75th biennial NALC National Convention is being held in Los Angeles on August 3-7, 2026. Below is a capsule summary of the Convention, and Branch 258's activities:
Monday at the NALC National Convention in Los Angeles - pictured are National President Brian Renfroe giving his, convention address, and guest speakers: President Emeritus Frederic Rolando, and AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. In addition to attending to the work of the Union as delegates, Branch 258 members also attended workshops in both the morning and afternoon on City Delivery, the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Contract Administration Unit (CAU), Branch Trustee Training, Mutual Benefits Association (MBA), Military Veteran's Rights, Grievance Filing, Managing Branch Finances, Navigating Legislation Processes, the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), Local Negotiations, and OWCP. The Branch would also like to thank Matt Rowlands, who volunteered to help at the National political booth, and Andy Gelsinger, who helped at the Emergency Response Team booth, both this day and throughout the week.

Tuesday at the NALC National Convention. Pictured are AFA-CWA President Sara Nelson and SEKO International Secretary Jens Saverstam. After a great deal of time sorting out procedural issues, the Delegates began deliberating on constitutional amendment proposals in the general session. Branch 258 members attended workshops in the morning and afternoon on the Health Benefit Plan and Whole Health, Estate and Trust Planning, International Postal Statuses, Safety and Health, Recruiting Union Activists, Risk Management and Branch Policies, Grievances (part 2), Local Negotiations, Ethical Decision Making, Economic Realities of the Postal Service, OWCP Claim Basics, and Effective Branch Communications. The Branch would also like to recognize Jason Taylor and Andy Gelsinger, who participated in the Red Cross blood drive which was held onsite this day.

Wednesday at the NALC National Convention. Pictured are NRLCA President Don Maston and AFGE President Everett Kelley. Delegates spent most of the day in an extended general session, where the rest of the 41 proposed Constitutional Amendments were considered; more3 procedural issues were discussed and convention business conducted. Lastly, nominations were taken for the upcoming election of National officers. There are four nominees who are running for National President. They are (listed alphabetically): Mike Caref, Lou Drass, James Henry, and Nicole Rhine. Branch 258 members also attended workshops in the morning on Navigating Federal Retirement, Conversions to Career and the Alternate Dispute Resolution Process, City Delivery, Fraud Prevention and Detection, Research and Resources for Stewards, and Ethical Decision Making. The branch would also like to recognize Paul Purcell, who coordinated efforts to donate supplies to veterans on this day, as well as all of the members who helped to stuff bags. We would also like to rewww.nalc.org/union-administration/nalc-convention/body/Wednesday-Chronicle.pdfcognize Branch President Richie McDonough, who nominated Brian Thompson in his bid for re-election as Region 12 National Business Agent.

Branch 258 would like to recognize and honor all of it's contributing members, as we have been honored with National level awards at this year's convention. Pictured are the summaries for the Highest Per Capita Contribution to the LCPF for a branch of our size nationwide, The Highest Per Capita Increase for a Branch of our size, The Highest Percentage of Members Contributing, and The Region With the Highest Per Capita Increase (for we were a driving force, as the leading individual branch). Congratulations Brothers and Sisters, and let's try to keep the momentum going for even higher totals during the next period!

Thursday at the NALC National Convention. Pictured are guest speakers Gary Peters, US Senator from Michigan, and Hakeem Jeffries, House Minority Leader. The convention was obligated to cancel workshops today, as the work of the delegates, being the highest priority, must be done, and the clock only has a limited number of hours. The delegates deliberated and acted on appeals to the body regarding the executive board, and acted upon numerous legislative and contract resolutions. In addition, many national awards were announced, but again, with time constraints, full presentations were truncated.

Friday at the National Convention. A busy day doing the work of the national union, completing deliberation on appeals and acting upon approximately 60 resolutions, as well as other business, in a session that was expanded by three hours. A test of stamina and patience. In fact, there were approximately 30 late resolutions that must wait until 2028 to be re-presented/ A huge thank you to for the dedication and work of all of the Branch 258 delegates.

2016 Convention Held in Los Angeles

Picture
The 70th biennial NALC National Convention has been held in Los Angeles.  Sixteen members of Branch 258 were in attendence, as over 5400 delegates from across the nation gathered to do our union's business on the National level.  After a festive opening reception and party on Sunday evening, the convention got down to business with daily general sessions from Monday to Friday, which were bookended by educaitonal workshops which spanned the gamut of union activities from duties of union officials, helping CCAs on the path to career appointment, workroom floor issues, safety, political activism, media relations, retirement, benefits, and more.  Each delegate will return to the branch with a great deal more expertise and skills training in any number of areas which can support and inform all branch members.  In addition, participation in the convention has been an exercise of participating in the processes of democracy, activism, and solidarity of our union brothers and sisters, befitting national President Rolando's theme of "solidarity in action."  In addition to the training and business of the national union, the general sessions were also full of presentations by guest speakers, letter carrier media presentations, delegate talks, and connection with carriers from across the country.  For further convention coverage and pics, see below.
